The Context
The Threex3 is a unique graduate internship opportunity in Dublin run by Detail, Unthink and Red&Grey wherein 3 design graduates work in each of the 3 studios for 3 months at a time. As the programme has recently gone through a restructuring, an updated visual identity was required to boost interest and applications in the programme. By surveying recent graduates and current final year students, we established that a lack of knowledge about how the programme worked and what’s involved was a barrier facing emerging graduates.

The Approach
The Threex3 is an immersive opportunity for learning and growth within a supportive framework, but clarity around the details of the experience were required. The visual identity needed to be dynamic and approachable, and to better reflect the experience of the Threex3 programme. To facilitate lots of different types of content, such as information posts, studio profiles, and alumni testimonials, the system had to be flexible.

The Solution
Our solution is a playful and expressive identity system that highlights the fun and human moments, while also providing clarity around the internship and application process. Hand drawn type, doodles and sketches are combined with refined, simple typography to create a personal, note to self tone. This is used alongside playful cut and paste motion to convey the idea of experimentation, and a work in progress. Conversational, FAQ style copy is used when sharing information about the programme, and Instagram stories emphasise the day-to-day experience, such as day in the life Intern profiles. We also spoke to final year students in colleges in Dublin about the programme to increase visibility.
